Documentation by Kim Feng Photography

Connie is an Australian contemporary artist whose work explores emotional and sensory power of paint. The 2024 artwork is a series of non-figurative oil paintings that explore her emotions and memories since she migrated from Hong Kong to Melbourne in 1987.

A graduate of the Master of Contempoary Art at Victorian College of Arts, University of Melbourne, the Endeavour Australia Awardee, art exhibition finalists and a recognised carer, Connie’s work captures inner states-passion, memories, vulnerabitlity and transformation through spontaneous body movement, the use of vibrant colour and luminous light. Colour in her practice functions as emotional language with brushstrokes resemble a form of spontaneous choreography, an “emotional dance” upon the surface. Connie‘s paintings are immersive, atmospheric, and expressive; they function as arenas where energy is released, and emotion materialised.

Drawing on Taoist aesthetics and action painting, Connie aims to engage her viewer’s senses with unpredictable moods and feelings that create a limitless sense of the sublime, vibrancy and resonate to personal reflection. She sees artmaking as a never-ending curious journey with its process guiding her to experiment with new ideas and concepts, from both eastern and western art history.
