Connie Wong

I have been a recognized carer since 2005. I warmly thank for the many people and my family who have greatly supported me in my art journey.

I would like to acknowledge the legislation of The Carer Recognition Act 2010 that aims to increase recognition and awareness of the role carers play in providing daily care and support to people with disability, medical conditions, mental illness or who are frail aged.

UNBOUND offers a compelling synthesis of artistic lineage and lived experience, drawing from the Tao Sublime of Tony Smibert and the expressive dynamism of Zhang Daqian to forge a visual language that is both grounded and expansive.

Created between 2024 and 2026, these works emerge from a period of profound personal transformation for the Chinese Australian artist, who reclaims painting as a site of emotional truth and renewal. My practice is deeply shaped by my environment and by the realities of navigating ageism, gender bias, and the quiet invisibility often experienced by migrants and long‑time carers. Through fluid gestures and luminous colour, I shake off the gloom of these experiences and opens a world defined by hope, kindness and creative liberation.

UNBOUND stands as both an artistic breakthrough and a tribute to the resilience of carers everywhere, inviting viewers into a space where vulnerability becomes strength and the inner self is given room to breathe.
